A free PDF map to the Taste of Chicago festival is now available online. Taste of Chicago is Illinois’ second largest tourist attraction, and there’ll be more hickory smoke in the air than petrol fumes. For ten days, this free-admission festival, now in its 30th year, is the place to be for thousands of locals who bring picnic blankets and spend the day sampling treats from the city’s best restaurants.
Festival goers will be entertained by a free concert lineup including rappers Salt-N-Pepa, and chefs as Mario Batali and Giada De Laurentiis will be sharing tricks of the trade at a designated cooking corner. For the first time in many years, Chicago’s Fourth of July fireworks will be held on the fourth — not the third! — of July, so festival goers can plan an all-American day of food and fireworks. Firework displays will occur up and down Chicago’s 26 miles of lakefront from 9pm.
The Chicago Tribune has released a handy PDF map of the festival. New and healthy options to try are highlighted to make navigation of this huge family event easy and fun. A percentage of the festival proceeds benefits Mayor Daley’s Sharing It program. Sharing It provides food and funds for the underprivileged through the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation and the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
