This week in PDF has seen major updates to a tools for extracting information from PDF documents and PDF OCR.
First up, PDFlib has announced the availability of its solution for extracting information such as metadata and interactive elements from PDF documents. PDFlib pCOS 3 adds support for the latest PDF standards and adds support for Acrobat X. The product is available as either a developer library, allowing developers to build pCOS functionality into their own applications, or as a command-line tool, to be used for batch operations. In other update news, CVISION Technologies has released an update to its OCR tool. CVista PdfCompressor 5.0. PdfCompressor 5.0 can process 20+ pages per second, and boasts improvements in file compression quality, OCR recognition accuracy, and compression processing speed. The new version also supports the conversion of 14 file formats (including TIFF, JPEG, and PDF) to either PDF or PDF/A for long-term archiving.
