This week in PDF: Quark announces support for Acrobat 8

This week in PDF has seen the addition of enhanced print to PDF functionality to a quality management system, while Adobe Acrobat 8 support has been included with Quark’s bundle of print software and Kansas’s Johnson County has improved its mapping system with a PDF-based solution.

First up, EtQ has enhanced PDF conversion features within its Quality, FDA Compliance and Environmental Health & Safety Software systems. The update allows users to convert reports, forms, histories and file attachments into PDF format. The new print to PDF feature is just one of the many available in EtQ’s Quality Management System, which was designed to identify, mitigate and prevent high-risk events through automation, integration and collaboration. Check out the EtQ web site for more detailed information.

In prepress news, Quark, Inc., has announced that its comprehensive set of prepress and imposition tools will support Adobe Acrobat 8. The new version of Quark Print Collection enables the imposition of native QuarkXPress layouts or PDF files quickly, simply, and accurately. Designed as a standalone set of prepress and imposition tools, Quark Print Collection offers both QuarkXPress 7 and Adobe Acrobat 8 users an intuitive user interface, extensive pagination options, and advanced control over settings. More information can be found on the official web site.

Implementing a PDF solution, Johnson County, Kansas has added the GeoPDF format to its automated information mapping system (AIMS) making it possible for users to create maps and save them as a GeoPDF file through the county GIS mapping data portal. The AIMS web site provides geospatial data to users through a secure web site maintained by the county’s GIS department. The use of GeoPDF format allows users to view, manipulate and update maps via Adobe Reader with or without Internet connections, which is especially helpful for field workers.
