This week in PDF: PDF-to-XML functionality added to Adlib Express Server

This week in PDF has seen an update to a server-based XML-to-PDF conversion engine, the release of a service for converting blogs and feeds into PDF documents and the launch of multilingual versions of Enfocus Instant PDF 08.

First up, Adlib Software has announced the availability of Adlib Express Server 4.5, an enhanced version of its server-based suite of applications. The new version allows users to convert XML files to PDF or other formats. Converting XML files to PDF is particularly important for organizations that pull high-volume content from databases and apply it to templates. With Adlib Server 4.5, users can now arrange and format a variety of complex XML documents with text, tables, graphics and images while converting to high quality PDF. For more information, visit the official Adlib website.

In other news, HP has released Tabbloid, a free online service for converting user-selected blogs and feeds into PDF documents. One advantage of Tabbloid over other such services is implementation of a simple subscription model. The use of the service is also relatively straightforward.

When you visit the site, you manually enter the blogs and feeds you’d like to follow, and can choose from some popular pre-configured topics such as technology, business, politics and sports. Specify an email address how often you would like to receive your Tabbloid PDF, and then stand by for your own custom publication.

Last but not least, Enfocus Software has released various localized versions of its established compliance product. Instant PDF 08 adds language support for French, German, Japanese, Italian and Spanish. The extended color management options, improved preflighting and integration with Enfocus PowerSwitch introduced in the latest version of Instant PDF are now also available for these users in their native languages. The latest version of Instant PDF 08 as well as fully-functional trial versions of all Enfocus products is available for download from the Enfocus website.

That’s it for this week. Watch this space!
