This week in PDF has seen the announcement that an established PDF optimization tool will power a paperless office system for the medical industry. Meanwhile, one PDF extraction tool has passed a major download milestone and another has just been released.
First up, Apago Inc. has announced that Alabama-based DDP LLC selected Apago’s PDF Enhancer to power its paperless office system for the medical industry, ChartCapture. PDF Enhancer automates the assembly, preparation, and optimization of PDFs for print, the Web, and archiving. The tool is fully integrated into the ChartCapture desktop scanning system, automatically outputting scanned charts to PDF. This serves to reduce the file sizes and optimize color, allowing users to quickly view online PDF-based charts. For more information about ChartCapture, visit the official website.
In other news, Solid Documents’ PDF-to-Word conversion utility, Solid Converter PDF, recently passed the million-download mark on Download.com, probably the best known software download site on the web. According to the company, however, that CNet portal accounts for only a fraction of the company’s total downloads. Since the product’s release in 2003, the press release claims, the company has enjoyed tens of millions of downloads of its products. More on the product can be found at the Solid Documents site.
Still on the topic of PDF conversion, Adolix Software has announced the release of its latest product, Adolix PDF to Image. This software allows users to convert PDF pages into the BMP, JPEG, TIFF and PNG image formats. Users can choose to convert to image all pages from a PDF file or select a page range in a way similar to that available when printing from Microsoft Word. That’s it for this week. Watch this space!
