This week in PDF has seen a PDF/A conversion tool add support for Microsoft Office documents. Meanwhile, a major update was made to a PDF indexing tool.
First up, callas software has updated its flagship product, pdfaPilot. The latest version of the PDF/A conversion product adds support for the rule-based conversion of Microsoft Office documents into PDF/A. pdfaPilot 2.1 also allows the automatic conversion of PDF files with transparent objects to PDF/A — a first, according to the official press release.

In other news, Foxit Corporation has updated its PDF searching and indexing solution. Foxit IFilter 2.0 allows users to index PDF documents, extract properties, and add configuration settings. The new version enables users to choose filtered properties and configure output log levels, leading to higher extraction efficiency. Properties that can be extracted using the product include attachments containing documents/annotations and file attributes. Finally, the software has been optimized for use with multi-core processors, significantly enhancing performance.
