The Ides of August have come and gone, and that means that it’s barely a month (33 days, 10:45:09 at time of writing) until the best holiday of the year — International Talk Like A Pirate Day. Anywho, to put aside that growing excitement for a moment, this week in PDF sees the emergence of a new PDF conference that will cater to the US’s wild Midwest and an update to a PDF-to-Word conversion tool.
Let’s kick off with the software news. Chinese company Chief-Win Corporation has announced the release of version 1.1 of its PDF conversion software. PDF Converter 1.1 can be used to convert PDF documents into Word or Text formats and allows for the extraction of PDF images as PNG or BMP files. New in the latest release are JBIG2 filter support and enhanced compression features. For more information or to download a demonstration version of the software, check out the Chief-Win Web site.
To round out this week’s news, Tech Ed Solutions has announced that it will run its inaugural Adobe Acrobat PDF Central Conference 2006 late this year. The show will run from November 6-9 in Council Bluffs, Iowa’s Mid-America Conference Center. With previous events concentrated around the US’s East and West coasts, the show is intended to bring PDF conferences to a new Midwest audience. More information can be found at the Tech Ed Solutions Web site.
That’s it for this week! Until next time…
