This week in PDF: Monkeybread Software updates Combine PDFs

This week in PDF has seen an update to a Mac-based tool for splitting and merging PDF documents, while a web-based viewer and a developer kit add PDF support.

First up, Monkeybread Software has announced an update to its PDF merge and split tool for Mac OS X. Combine PDFs 4.3 is a lightweight utility that allows users to merge multiple PDF files and images (JPG, TIFF, etc.) into a single PDF document. Users can also split PDF files or create new ones with interleaved pages from several PDF documents. The software can also be used to apply 40- or 128-bit password encryption to their PDF files. Speaking of updates, Daeja Image Systems has added a feature that adds brings PDF text searching capability to its web-based document and image viewer, ViewONE Pro. Entitled PDF Text Searching, the new feature in the company’s PDF Module offers a simple user interface that allows fast text searching of multi-page PDF documents. PDF Text Searching allows case sensitive, phrase and whole word searches to be completed. Identified words are clearly highlighted in blue with a black text box to help users quickly find them on the page. The view can be easily changed from Index to Thumbnail and search history is saved to allow users to easily revisit previous work. To find out more, visit

There are updates on the developer front, too, with NiXPS releasing a maintenance update to its NiXPS SDK family of products. The NiXPS product family allows developers to edit, manipulate and convert XPS documents. More importantly for Planet PDF readers, however, is the new release’s XPS-to-PDF/A conversion feature.

Nick De Roeck, managing director of NiXPS NV comments: ‘In v2.6.3 [of NiXPS Converter SDK v2.6.3,] we add the ability to restrict the PDF to the PDF/A-1b substandard. As such generating PDF/A conforming documents from a your .NET desktop or server applications becomes a breeze.’

The new version is currently available. Pricing and product information can be found at the NiXPS website.

That’s it for this week. Watch this space!
