This Week in PDF: Mac-based PDF editor adds redaction functionality

This week in PDF has seen major updates to a Mac-based PDF editing application and a PDF-to-InDesign conversion tool.

First up, Smile has released a major update to its PDF editing application for Mac OSX systems. The featured addition to PDFpen 5.0 is new redaction functionality. Along with various other improvements, the latest version now allows users to redact or replace text, including OCR text. Users can also initiate search-and-replace and search-and-redact functions to remove multiple instances of sensitive information. In other news, Recosoft has commenced shipping the latest version of its PDF-to-InDesign conversion tool for Macintosh and Windows platforms. PDF2ID v3.0 includes a range of new features and enhancements. In particular, it has been designed to operate smoothly with Adobe InDesign CS3/CS4/CS5. The new version also enables the conversion of variable page size PDFs to variable page size InDesign documents and contains new options to control how graphics objects are processed.
