This week in PDF: EskoArtwork is born

This week in PDF has seen the integration of a PDF product that will facilitate bidding processes, an update to a suite of Java reporting tools and the dust begins to settle after the big merger between Esko and Artwork Systems.

First up, The Blue Book has incorporated software from Bluebeam into its BB-Bid Private Online Plan Room to streamline the bidding process for commercial construction projects. Bluebeam specializes in PDF solutions for the construction, architectural and engineering industries and simplifies the editing and markup of PDF documents. Integrated into BB-Bid, Bluebeam PDF Revu will enable BB-Bid users to view, compare, takeoff and markup PDF documents in any BB-Bid Online Plan Room. More information on Bluebeam’s solutions can be found on the official vendor website.

Moving from one kind of partnership to another now, and Esko and Artwork Systems have announced the completion of their merger transactions. The new combined business will go forward under the EskoArtwork brand, providing design, pre-production and collaboration solutions to the packaging industry. EskoArtwork will also provide a range of workflow solutions to the commercial printing market, along with the Enfocus suite of PDF tools for graphic designers and print production professionals. Check out the Esko web site for more detailed information.

Last, but not least, the Big Faceless Organization (BFO) has updated its range of Java reporting tools. PDF Library version 2.8.4 fixes a memory leak occurring when certain multi-byte OpenType fonts were used in forms. All customers are encouraged to upgrade. Other improvements relate to PDF/A support and reading certain types of TIFF image. The Report Generator 1.1.37 is built on Version 2.8.4 of the PDF Library, and 1.1.6 of the Graph Library, and has been released to take advantage of these modifications. The company has also released version 2.3.2 of the Graph Library which adds enhanced support for labels, image and markers. For more information, visit the BFO web site.

That’s it for this week. Watch this space!
