This week in PDF: Compliance and conversion

As the Planet PDF team returns from the Adobe Acrobat and PDF Conference, this week in PDF sees updates to a compliance-testing solution and a suite of conversion tools while a free PDF creation add-on is released for Firefox.

First up, QualityLogic has announced an update its PDF compliance-testing tool, to be available during May. PDF InteropAnalyzer verifies that a device or software application can successfully read and interpret Portable Document Format (PDF) files. PDF 1.7 InteropAnalyzer Plus supports PDF 1.7 and adds a functional testing module for new PDF 1.6 and 1.7 features. To find out more, check out the vendor Web site.

Moving from compliance to conversion, and Visual Integrity has updated its line of PDF conversion products. Now all in version 6.8, PDF FLY, pdf2cad, pdf2image, pdf2picture, FLY SDK and FLY Batch add additional output formats and greater control of the resulting files. All products are available now for Microsoft Windows, including Vista, Linux and UNIX directly from Visual Integrity or through its worldwide network of on-line resellers, corporate resellers and VARS. A complete list of enhancements in version 6.8 is available on the Visual Integrity Web site.

Now onto the reverse operation, that is, converting to PDF now, and Drawloop has released a Firefox add-on to complement its free online conversion service. LOOP for Firefox loads directly into the Web browser, allowing users to upload, convert and combine multiple files to PDF. LOOP for Firefox is currently available at no charge from the Mozilla Web site.

That’s it for this week. Watch this space!
