In a busy seven days, this week in PDF sees an online E-Filing preparation tool become a free service, the release of a new text on Adobe Acrobat 3D and updates to products for PDF mail merging and PDF preflight.
First up, Split Court, Inc, has announced that its online PDF-splitting program will now be offered as a free service. The service allows lawyers to upload PDF (Adobe Acrobat) exhibits, specifying the Court-required file size. The software then splits the exhibits into separate files which are each of the optimal size. Attorneys can then download the separate files or have them returned via email for filing. More information can be found on the official website.
From law to education now, and Adobe Press has released the latest addition to its Classroom in a Book series. Adobe Acrobat 3D Version 8 Classroom in a Book offers a series of self-paced lessons, along with a DVD covering Acrobat 3D’s features for creating, reviewing, editing, commenting on, restructuring, and preflighting 3D PDF files for the CAD, Manufacturing and AEC markets. Check out the product page for more detailed product information.
For those handling large mail-outs, mail merge applications are an invaluable asset. In that vein, TallApplications has released an update to its PDF-based mail merge tool. PDF/Mergician 3 adds support for flowing dynamic content across pages and adding pages as needed, incorporating digital signatures and validation rules and an updated user interface. The new version is compatible with project files created in earlier versions of PDF/Mergician and runs on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 or Windows Vista. Full release details and a free trial version of the software can be found at TallApplications.com.
Last but not least, Alwan Color Expertise has updated its color preflighting, standardization and optimization tool. CMYK Optimizer 3 includes full support for the latest ICC color management system, Adobe PDF v8 library and Alwan Dynamic DeviceLink Profiles. Features new to version 3 include a press calibration option and image enhancement technology that allows users to enhance individual images embedded in their PDF files. The product will debut at GraphExpo, Chicago in September 2007, and more information on the update can be found on the vendor website.
That’s it for this week. Watch this space!
