Redact-It 2.0 released

Informative Graphics Corporation has announced the immediate release of a major update to its electronic redaction software. Redact-It 2.0 adds optical character recognition (OCR) of PDF files, along with support for redaction across a greater range of file formats, including WordPerfect, TXT and RTF.

The process of redaction allows users to remove sensitive information from protected documents. This often must be done before such documents can be disseminated to a wider audience than that for whom they were originally written. The nice thing about adding PDF OCR functionality is that it will allow users to run text-based searches for sensitive phrases on scanned PDF documents. That in turn should facilitate the speedy removal of sensitive content.

Searching and automation are major themes in the update. The new version now supports the use of regular expressions, redaction of all instances of highlighted text, and the censorship of defined areas (e.g., those containing logos) across all pages of a document.

Another new feature is the addition of threaded commenting functionality, which enables detailed discussions between reviewers.

‘IGC continues to lead the industry in redaction technology,’ said Gary Heath, president and CEO of IGC. ‘We are committed to innovating features and refining functionality to help users review and redact documents quickly and reliably. This release of Redact-It does just that.’

Interested (potential) users can download a 15-day trial or read more about the product at the official website.
