Prominent PDF software company, ARTS PDF (now Debenu), has released a new product that may change the way that frustrated IT managers think about desktop PDF creation. Known primarily for its Acrobat plug-ins, ARTS PDF has taken a bold step into the dual arenas of PDF creation and editing. The new application, entitled Nitro PDF, is a lightweight, Windows-only Acrobat alternative that is priced at a mere US$99, which is sure to make prospective volume licensors smile.
On the creation side, Nitro combines one-click creation from MS Office with a virtual printer driver that allows users to print from any Windows application. In addition, the application offers a variety of creation options from within its interface, including the creation of PDFs from single or multiple files or clipboard images.
The viewing and editing side, however, is where Nitro really distinguishes itself, with support for digital signatures, 128-bit security, full commenting and drawing annotation tools, stamping, forms design and fulfillment functionality. With all that and more in the pipeline, it is perhaps no wonder that this application has been referred to as ‘The other PDF.’
‘Nitro PDF is the first true Acrobat alternative. It’s the first fully-featured product to combine high-quality PDF creation and manipulation capabilities. With its attractive price point, Nitro will fundamentally change the way corporations and businesses manage document security, collaboration, editing and PDF creation.’ says ARTS PDF Chief Operating Officer, Sam Chandler. To further this point, ARTS PDF has encouraged members of the PDF community to download a pre-release version of the product and to submit any feedback. ‘Compliments, criticism, we want it all.’ continued Chandler. ‘We’ve built Nitro to let everyone take advantage of the power of PDF and we appreciate what the user community can contribute in terms of helping us shape the product.’ Nitro PDF begins shipping on May 2, but a pre-release version is currently available from their site.
